14x20cm White satin-silk playbill with crimson silk border for a benefit performance given in Lincoln at the behest of the city's MP the Earl of Mexborough, John Savile, for the actors 'Mr Waldegrave and Mr Hastings, New Theatre, Lincoln', of George Colman's play The Mountaineers and a performance by the band of the 'loyal Lincoln Volunteer Infantry' including a composition by Waldegrave himself followed by Prince Hoare's play Three and the Deuce. The playbill concludes with the promise of a further benefit in the following week: 'On Monday 7th, Mr. Kelly & Miss Wood's Benefit, Shakspeare's Play of The Merchant of Venice.- A Play on Wednesday.' The playbill is split horizontally along the central fold but held together by the crimson silk border. A beautiful object.
