'Magda from Tittivulus himself' - an excellent association copy with the artist Michael Ayrton's dedicatory drawing on the first free endpaper, complete with slogan positioned to cover his modesty. Laid in is a brief note from Ayrton to Magda Paton-Freeman, a longtime friend, in which apologises for his no-show as 'I had wax models for bronzes to take to the foundry and on a day as hot as this there is great danger of their melting in the car... Love M' A near fine first edition, signed on the title page, in a good price-clipped jacket which has 8cm closed tears along the hinges between the spine of the jacket and the lower and upper panels. Magda Paton-Freeman worked for the BBC, reputedly replying to Lord Haw Haw’s infamous broadcasts, and thereby earning herself a place on Goebbels' death list. This book works up Ayrton's Tittivulus character which first appeared on the BBC. Ayrton achieved success as a painter, printmaker, sculptor and designer; his considerable output of sculptures, book-illustrations, poems and stories reveals a lifelong obsession with flight, myth and mazes.
