[frontispiece] pp72. Jacob Tonson's 1734 edition of the Scottish play with two terminal leaves of music 'set by Mr Leveridge' containing the words only. This standalone edition is bound here with the frontispiece which was issued as part of Tonson's edition of Shakespeare's works issued a year after first publication in 1735. Recently rebound in pretty marbled wrappers with a paper label to the upper cover and new endpapers. Light stain to the recto of the frontispiece, old stab sewing holes close to the gutter from the play's original incarnation as a separate issue; a very good copy of this uncommon edition of Shakespeare's tragedy of regicide and its horrifying aftermath, a play whose name even now is never uttered in the superstitious back-stage world of theatre.
