Inscribed biography of St Therese with a postcard from its author who is regarded by many as 'a Saint for our time' which she sent to Joyce Stein, wife of the British writer, critic and Catholic moral philosopher Walter Stein. Dorothy Day has signed the book on the title page in black biro. Laid in is her postcard from November 1967, probably written after a visit during the International Congress of the Laity and addressed to 'Mrs Walter Stein' in Ilkley in Yorkshire, thanking her for 'your lovely hospitality', praising her husband's recent 'very good' performance at a conference and continuing: 'I feel very warm and close to you both and hope we meet again. Love - in Christ, Dorothy.' The postcard's image show the Byzantine mosaic floor of the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes. The book is in very good condition, a little offsetting from some newspaper clippings to the title page; the jacket is good with a reprinted price, lightly nicked to the edges in a couple of places. Additionally laid in is a newspaper obituary of Day and a deep blue leather bookmark 'Made in Italy'. Dorothy Day was the founder to the Catholic Worker newspaper in the USA whose reputation has never been higher, variously described as 'a ferocious radical' and 'an utter pacifist and a Christian anarchist... She had a deep inward joy in being a Catholic.'
