From the library of John Maynard Keynes, the rare final number of a Cambridge avant-garde magazine which printed an extract from Joyce's Finnegan's Wake and poems by William Empson and the prose of Malcolm Lowry.

Original printed wrappers, darkening to spine and a little wear at the tail, slight creasing to extremities of card covers. Pencilled ownership inscription by John Maynard Keynes's nephew Stephen Keynes, 'SJK ex JMK' to the half title. pp76 [4] Institutionally very scarce: OCLC locates Dadie Rylands' copy at Kings College, Cambridge; Cornell, Kansas and Harry Ransom.

Contributors, besides the editors Jacob Bronowski and Hugh Sykes, include William Empson on Auden, and an original poem, Richard Eberhart and James Joyce 'From Work in Progress' here reprinted from Transition and with a 'Footnote' by Joyce's explicator in chief, Stuart Gilbert as well as work by Humphrey Jennings and Malcolm Lowry's 'Punctum Indifferens Skibet Gaar Videre'.

This modernist 'little' magazine ran for six issues in the 1920s before being revived by Bronowski for this single rebranded imprint as 'The New Experiment' in 1931 by which time most of the contributors were moving on from university life. Julian Trevelyan recalled that the magazine was much influenced by I A Richards' lectures at Cambridge.
