pp 305-320 (Qq1-Rr4) Number 36 of Roger L'Estrange's news sheet from May 11, 1665, much preoccupied with the second Anglo-Dutch war. Comprising two quarto quires, this is a single issue of L'Estrange's proto-newspaper that ran in London from 1664-1666 with a caption title and imprint at the end of the text. Attractively bound in quarter tan calf over marbled boards, around thirty additional blank sheets packing out the binding. The text collates complete, old folds to the pages. There are rumours of a possible action between the British and Dutch navies, an advertisement for a lost locket 'betwixt Broadstreet and Morefields' in London, we hear of the knighthood conferred 'upon Demetrius James of Ightam in the County of Kent Esquire' and to conclude there is a long detailed despatch 'From abord the Royal Charles, May 5'. As Licenser of the Press, L'Estrange hunted down hidden presses and dissenting printers bringing him great unpopularity and perhaps contributing to the early demise of this imprint. ESTC P1539
