Campbell's study of the archetypal hero inscribed to the author of Watership Down, Richard Adams. First edition in publisher's quarter black cloth over green cloth, rubbed to edges; Richard Adams' ownership signature on the first blank; Campbell's inscription on the title page: 'In celebration of our meeting in friendship, as well as in the spirit - to Richard Adams, in admiration, with my warm regards and best wishes Joseph Campbell NY City 4/20/81'. An erasure at the head of the half title has thinned the paper there. Tiny bookseller's stamp of 'Sotheran, Sackville St. London' to tail of front pastedown. Campbell's theory has been picked up and used in a great variety of ways by contemporary writers and thinkers, most notably George Lucas who acknowledges Campbell's influence on the genesis of the Star Wars series.
