[4] pp 1-16, 21-120 Late eighteenth century Czech manuscript collection of morning prayers written in a variety of coloured inks by Jan Kroff. Bound in contemporary diced calf over thin wooden boards, some cracking to boards. Central blind-tooled central bust, probably St Jan Nepomuk, to both covers surrounded by elaborate blind decoration, some loss to leather of backstrip and a couple of old worm holes to binding. Kroff executed the manuscript on blue paper leaving an authorship statement, 'Gan Krof 1799', at the end of the manuscript and the explicit: 'Konec Modlideb' - end of prayers. The pages are numbered though it's not clear whether pages 17-20 were ever present or their absence is a numbering error - page 17 marks the end of a prayer and page 20 apparently the beginning of another. The manuscript itself begins with the title contained in a multi-coloured octagonal cartouche of concentric frames and ropework with decorative sectional titles dotted through the text at the beginning of new prayers. The manuscript is written in blue, brown, red and yellow ink, sometimes all on the same page as the text metamorphoses before your eyes. Finger marking throughout where a copied Catholic text designed for private devotional use has clearly been used during prayer and meditation.
