An autograph letter written by the sixth son of George III, to his friend and Royal eye surgeon, Jonathan Wathen Waller. Writing from Kensington Palace on June 12th 1833 the Duke of York uses the excuse of the 'press of Business' to explain his decision to the anticipated 'pleasure' of a visit to Wathen Waller and his wife, Lady Howe. The Prince who was President of the Royal Society mentions the particular strain put on him during 'the evening previous to the last meeting of the Royal Society' The letter which has been tipped onto an album sheet by the four corners comes from a collection of autographs and letters put together by the Lane family of Kings Bromley Hall near Lichfield in the nineteenth century, several of them to or relating to Wathen Phipps.
