ff 107. The official record of th Manchester and Salford Children's Special Service Mission Committee, from its inception in 1909 through to 1947.These committee minutes record the organisation, activities, internal debates and external contacts of the Manchester branch of the CSSM, later known as the Scripture Mission. In the early days the meetings are recorded as being held at 135 Deansgate with names, addresses, resolutions and organisational details plus budgets and programmes of 'children's meetings', visiting speakers and planned projects. The book is a lined half leather bound notebook by W Straker Limited with a recent paper label stuck to the front cover. The endpapers and edges of the text block are marbled. The binding is sound but bumped to the extremities and rubbed. The first entry records the foundation of the Manchester and Salford Branch 'in the Board Room of the City Mission, 135 Deansgate'. A full list of those present is included in manuscript together with a subsequent typed list of the Committee with addresses who hailed from across the area now known as Greater Manchester. The text is interspersed with occasional press cuttings of the organisation's activities which include regular speakers, children's meetings and trips with 'seaside services in August'. Among much else is recorded the worries of members about the prominence of Church of England speakers at one meeting with a request that the 'Free Churches' be represented. A lecture on the Palestine Tablets seems to have been one consequence.
