pp56 Original artwork together with a near fine copy of the Manchester University Union Rag magazine for 1941 in a fresh and bright cover designed by Geoffrey Bardsley who was also behind the 4 pieces of accompanying artwork which date from his time at Manchester University and afterwards: 1938-1974. Manuscript menu for the Municipal School of Architecture dinner dance 1938, illustrated with pen and ink cartoons; A comic ink and watercolour illustration of the Town Hall Harriers Expedition from Hayfield to the Speedwell Mine, July 1949; a page of caricatures of Jazz Types and Jitterbugs at the Jazz Ball in the Free Trade Hall, 1951; and a mounted pen and ink drawing of an unknown northern street scene, 1974. Bardsley was at Manchester University in 1941 probably studying architecture before being called up for military service. Bardsley's style at university shows real verve and wit.
