An aristocratic Irish contributor's copy of this scarce journal seeking to identify the British with the lost tribes of Israel.

The four volumes, II-V, contain 60 issues of the journal which were bound by 'M & S Eaton' of Grafton Street, Dublin in half red morocco over blue boards with lurid gilt decoration to the spines. The bindings are robust but rubbed and stained, especially to the cloth. Happily the individual journal articles have been bound with their orange printed wrappers usually annotated with issue details.

James A Butler, 4th Marquess Ormonde, has inscribed several of the title pages with his cipher 'JAB' and a a couple of volumes bear his armorial label with the family crest and motto 'Depressus Extollor'. Butler has annotated the texts throughout in pencil, notably Volume IV which contains his two published contributions: 'The Royal Descent of the Female Line and 'The Wise Men of the East'. Butler married an American telegraph heiress from Illionois and the couple lived in some style in London and Berkshire. Judging from these carefully annotated texts he also took a serious interest in the philo-semitic activities of the British-Israelite movement.
