xvi] pp 670, [30] index. The first Leiden edition of Lactantius from 1652. Presumably a late seventeenth century import from Leiden into England the book is bound in contemporary English sheep which although marked is sound as a binding with only a little loss at the top of the spine. There is a blind double fillet to the boards and spine and corner fleurons also in blind. The text is complete as called for with the engraved title page (slightly loose) followed by the letterpress title page. The first front blank has been partially cut away; the armorial bookplate of Philip Gurdon (Assington Hall, Suffolk) appears on the pasteboard in place of a front pastedown and below it a twentieth century Oxford bookseller's ticket for 'Thornton and Son'. Philip Gurdon's ownership signature from 1680 appears on the first endpaper.
