Very uncommon collection of Day and Haghe lithographs from drawings by Robert William Buss (held at Harvard) of Oxford and Cambridge libraries, colleges and their founders, collected by the university reformer and Manchester philanthropist James Heywood. Four images are handcoloured: Bodleian Library, Cambridge University Library, Oxford Amusements and 'A Father Presenting a Supplicat [sic] to the Caput, Cambridge'. Bound in original textured green cloth with lettering in gilt to upper board, yellow pages; gutta percha binding perished and all pages loose though collated and complete with title page and contents preceding images. Gift inscription opposite title page: 'Margaret Ogle the kind gift of Mrs Heaviside Nov 26. 1868'. Heywood was educated at Edinburgh and Trinity College, Cambridge, founding the Manchester Geological Society and Manchester Athenaeum.
