pp 160 Steiner's Modern Masters study of Heidegger, attractively inscribed to a friend: 'For Jim, in fond recollection of a season in Eden! George (9/9/78)'. Jim is James Sheehan, then working at North Western University, later Dickason Professor in the Humanities at Stanford. It's not clear whether the 'season in Eden!' was one spent by Sheehan with Steiner, possibly where he was teaching in Geneva or a visit by Steiner to North Western University or elsewhere. A polyglot critic, Steiner's career has spanned Europe and America. The book is bound in card wraps, the inscription appears on the first endpaper which has a short (quarter inch) closed tear at its head, otherwise a near fine copy.
