pp 172 Schrödinger's Shearman lectures inscribed with gratitude by the author after a big night with the first post-war German Ambassador in Vienna, Carl Hermann Mueller Graaf. Erwin Schrödinger has inscribed the book on the verso of the half title to 'Sr Excellenz... Deutschen Botschaffer Herrn Carl H Mueller-Graaf' thanking the Ambassador for the unforgettable hours he and his wife spent in the Ambassador's 'wunderschoen' home. The inscription is dated '14 Juli 1957 E. Schrodinger'. The book is near fine with a little bump at the head of the upper and lower covers in a very good jacket, a little discolouration to the white printed lower panel of the jacket. In this work, which was first delivered at University College, London in 1948, Schrödinger demonstrated the continuity of Greek philosophical traditions in modern science including relativity and atomic theory. This book was published as Schrödinger returned to live out his final years in Vienna at the close of a remarkable career during which he won the Nobel Prize for developing a number of fundamental results in the field of quantum theory. In popular culture Schrödinger is best known for his 'Schrödinger's cat' thought-experiment.
