Documentary archive of the career of British merchant seaman, Clifford Gould, who served with the Liverpool Salvage Association over two world wars. Born in Brightlingsea, Essex, in 1890 Gould joined the merchant navy in 1912 serving first on board Steam Ship Orama (Australian mails) out of Glasgow before transferring to HM Salvage vessel Linnet (ex naval gunboat) during the first war (signed off by its master Robert Brooke) and SS Ranger from the mid 1920s to 1947. Present is Gould's 'Continuous Certificate of Discharge' (Board of Trade) with a full narrative of his career, around a dozen individual certificates of discharge and twenty photographs showing Gould throughout his career with several earlier family photographs. Gould's photo-identity card or British Mercantile Marine certificate from 1918 is present alongside his medical card.
