De Quincey's great confessional work with a letter salutation from the author laid down across the title page: 'I remain, Sir, your obed.t servant. Tho.s De Quincey.' There is no date or further information about this signature to be deduced beyond the fact that it was cut from a letter written at some time during De Quincey's adulthood. This is the Grant Richards reprint of 1903 with four ownership signatures on the first blank, the earliest being 'ThS. Wilmot' followed by Eldred Oliver and in 1957 P Parker - it's not known who inserted De Quincey's signature. A couple of annotations and a tape repair to page 277.
