pp 84 Interleaved with photographs of colonial-era New Zealand, an extra-illustrated copy of Charles Strickland Mackie's life of his father Reverend Charles Mackie (1798-1882) who emigrated to New Zealand in 1852. Mackie junior has dismantled the book and interleaved it in order to allow the insertion of additional material, writing the title on the green buckram covered boards and dedicating it on the first endpaper: 'For Alice Dunlop with affectionate regards from her Cousin C Strickland Mackie 9 April 1906' adding a portrait photograph of himself which he has signed on the following page. The printed life of Mackie who arrived in New Zealand aboard the Duke of Portland is embellished with numerous photographs including a 'pencil-drawn Miniature in the hands of the Author' showing his father as a Regency buck in the 1820s, a photograph of a painting of ships carrying the 'Canterbury Pilgrims' in Port Lyttelton in 1850, a portrait photograph of H J C Harper, first Bishop of Christchurch, an early photograph of Christchurch Cathedral another of Canon Pascoe, Vicar of Avonside New Zealand etc. Worldcat locates copies in the Alexander Tunbull Library; NSW Library and BL only.
