[6] xviii, pp 396 [12] index [8] book adverts. Panelled calf, Cambridge-style binding, rebacked to style with new red morocco spine label, paper reinforcement to inner hinges, speckled edges, internally very good, a little marginal browning and creases to folding plates. Plates: I, II (bound in twice) III-V [2 unnumbered foldout plates of moon] VI-XVII, XIX-XXVII - overall 27 plus 2 moon plates but with two versions of Plate II and lacking Plate XVII. This copy deaccessioned from the library of Ampleforth Abbey with old white lozenge shaped paper label to spine as well as Ampleforth's 'Shelf Number' label to the front pastedown and the library's monastic nineteenth century purple gothic style stamp on the recto of the frontispiece: 'S. Laurent Bibliotheca Monasterii Apud Ampleforth'. Keill was a Scottish mathematician and disciple of Newton who became Savilian Professor of Astronomy at Oxford, becoming involved in Newton's calculus plagiarism dispute with Leibniz.
