The Ripley Castle copy from the collection of Sir John Ingilby of Ripley Castle in north Yorkshire.
Bound in contemporary calf, neatly rebacked using the original morocco label. Ingilby’s bookplate on the first pastedown; a paper fault has left a hole in the blank endpaper opposite which has an old pencil shelf mark and London address in pencil at the head of the page: ‘No. 14 Hanover St.’ Portrait frontispiece and folding engraving of Charter House together with Sutton’s tomb. The book collates: xvi, pp276.
It was in the library of Ripley Castle that Oliver Cromwell was held at gunpoint by a daughter of the Ingilby family who have owned the house for 26 generations.
