[8] pp 5-67 [1] William Romaine's contribution to the controversy about Jewish incorporation in Britain as full citizens. A disbound pamphlet with '7' in ink on the title page. Slight toning to title page; worm trail at foot page of final quire: a very good copy on bright clean paper stock. This pamphlet by the evangelical Romaine forms part of the backlash against the 1753 Jewish Naturalization Act which had allowed Jews to be naturalised, only to be repealed the following year after it became a general election issue. Romaine argues that Jews had never been admitted as full citizens and to consider them as such would destroy a pillar of the British establishment as the author could not conceive of a separation between religion and state.
