[2 plates] iv, pp 1-91 [1] errata. Thomas James's account of King's College Chapel written on behalf of the Chapel Clerk, Henry Malden, in an imprint with a rich Cambridge provenance. The book is in marbled paper covered boards with a vellum spine. The binding is sound with a little rubbing to the extremities and marks on the front board where a label was formerly fixed. The text is complete with the etched frontispiece of the nominal author holding the keys of the chapel and the side view engraving of the chapel positioned between the preliminaries and the main text. The paper is browned throughout. The frontispiece is beginning to loosen along the gutter at the foot of the page. On the front free endpaper is an early nineteenth century gift inscription: 'This book was given to Miss Elizabeth Ann Samplow by Joseph Gridler Esq'r Senior Fellow of Pembroke Hall, Cambridge. September 3, 1808.' The book contains a detailed description of the history and architecture of this late, great medieval building, with special attention paid to the stained glass.
