[frontispiece, 6 plates] pp 274. Edinburgh edition signed and authenticated by Samuel Ancell on the verso of the title page: 'None are genuine but what are signed by my hand. [manuscript] Samuel Ancell'. Tree calf binding which has darkened with age, spine relaid, faded red morocco label, rounded corners to boards, paper reinforcement to inner hinges. The text of this third edition has been collated and is complete, some browning to paper, with striking engraved plates including an overview of the rock of Gibraltar as well as depictions of the engagements at sea and on land - Ancell himself was stationed on the rock and the book is written in the form of a series of letter's to the author's brother. The Great Siege of Gibraltar was an unsuccessful attempt by Spain and France to capture Gibraltar from the British during the American War of Independence.
