[22] [1] pp 2-256 Volume I and II, bound together, of the Supplement to Montfaucon's landmark work on archaeology with 54 dramatic copper plate illustrations. Montfaucon's cornucopia includes items held in collections all over Europe as well as the surviving archaeological evidence pictured in situ. The highlight of this volume is the sequence of plates in Volume II devoted to Egyptian archaeology, including a series on mummies and the gatefold plate LII devoted to an inscription taken from the 'Covering of a Mummy'. Both text and illustrations are complete although the first leaf before the title page - presumably a half-title - is not present. There is some staining to the pages at the end of the text. The plates are almost without exception excellent impressions and in very good condition. The panelled calf binding is very worn with amateur repairs to the front board. Happily the boards remain well attached to the body of the book. Overall the contents of the book are about Very Good in condition, with the binding functional but poor.
