St Mawr - A Leather Covered Wooden Box
This extraordinary work of homage to D H Lawrence is in the form of a large box with a draw that has been designed to look like a gigantic copy of Lawrence's St Mawr. The construction is of wood with a draw that pulls out of what would be the book's foreedge. The size is the most startling thing about this remarkable object. It is nearly two feet high by a foot wide and four inches in depth. The wood frame has been covered with leather which has been intricately worked to show spine lettering and two representations of Lawrence's Phoenix emblem. The provenance of the 'book' is a Nottingham Saleroom. Unfortunately nothing more is known about who made it. Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions if you would like more information.
