Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
[10] pp 11-217 [1] A First Edition of Anita Loos' classic novel with a signed letter from the author laid in. The letter is typed on yellow line paper with Loos' letterhead in September 1973. In it the author recalls her 'summer months' in Italy and remarks that she is flattered to have received the request for 'my autograph in a book', signing herself 'With kindest regards, most cordially yours, Anita Loos' with her West 57th Street New York address written below. The original envelope is also present. The book is bound with yellow buckram spine over crimson cloth covered boards. This First Edition is undated as called for and published by Brentano's Ltd. The text is clean throughout with slight marginal browning to the thick paper stock. The red cloth on the front board shows some old damp staining and a small section appears to have been glued back into place, possibly after a tear. The ownership signature of 'Beryl Garratt 5 Brompton Square' appears on the front free endpaper. This appears to be Anne Beryl Garratt whose letters to Professor Joan Violet Robinson are in the archive of King's College Cambridge.
